Full-Time Blogging?

Thursday, April 27, 2017

Whenever I introduce myself, I always say this:

"I am a freelance writer and fashion, beauty and lifestyle blogger."

I've always been a writer but I started writing in a professional capacity when I was 17, and I started my blog when I was 21 and away at university. Deep down inside I knew I wanted to carve out a career out of my favourite passions - writing, beauty, fashion and lifestyle - but I didn't think that would be possible.

Now I know it is possible - I'm living proof - but sometimes it feels a little bit surreal. I'm still finding my feet as a freelance writer but I am so grateful that I can wake up everyday and finally do something I love for money, especially after spending so much time being denied the opportunity to do so. For a long time I believed that I couldn't make from a creative venture (because I was made to feel like that) but now I know that that's not true.

The next step is to gain more freelance writing work and make more money. As a freelance copywriter and content writer, I get paid to write for other people's blogs, but I'd love to get paid to write on my own blog. From time to time I feature products I've been sent and I have been paid to post on my blog in the past, plus I have monetized my blog, but I'd love to make money from my blog on a regular basis. I'd love to generate some income from it and then generate some revenue. To be honest, I'd love to be a full-time blogger.

For now, I'll just keep working hard on my blog. After all, it started out as a hobby and it is still (kind of) a hobby. But I'd love to make money from it. I take my blog very seriously and I treat it like a full-time job, even though I'm not making any money from it. It's like I'm a full-time blogger even though I'm not a full-time blogger - if that makes sense. I started my blog and ran it alongside full-time study, but now I have more time and opportunity to work on it and make it a success!

I'm really proud of my blog at the moment. I love the content and the aesthetics, but now it's time to take it up a notch.

Are you a full-time writer? Would you love to become a full-time blogger?

  1. I would love to blog full time. I'm a self employed writer and while I love what I do my true passion is my blog. I have been putting more effort into it this past couple of weeks and it is starting to make a difference. I just need to make money from it now!

    1. Same here! Over the past few months, I've put so much effort into my blog and it's monetised, but I just want to make it my income stream. It's my passion and I'd love to turn it into a business.

    2. Same here, as in, I'm a self-employed writer too! :) Writers rock! :)

  2. Keep doing what you're doing, I'm sure it'll pay off. I used to want to be a full time blogger but I also have a strong passion for medicine and practicing in remote villages that I'm not sure blogging would satisfy me. Maybe if i find a bridge between both worlds it'll work out. For now I'll just enjoy it as a big time hobby and everything else that it is.
