A to Z

Friday, May 27, 2016

Feeling inspired by Kirsty Leanne's post, I have decided to create a list of things about myself in the format of an A-Z list.

A is for Assertiveness
It's taken me a very long time to learn this, but now I am gradually 'mastering' the art of assertiveness.

B is for Blogging
I love blogging.  I've been blogging for a few years and I enjoy it!  It's a fantastic hobby and it keeps me preoccupied.

C is for Confidence
Confidence is always something I have struggled with, because I didn't have, but over time I am learning to feel confident within myself and my own abilities.

D is for Drive
I have always been very ambitious and extremely driven.  I want to do well.  I want to be successful.  I want to carve out a nice life for myself, and I will stop at nothing until I get that.

E is for Education
I have always valued education - I have just finished my degree - but there are many ways in which a person can educate themselves.  Life is a learning curve, and it's so important to broaden your horizons and open your mind in various ways.

F is for Friendship
I find it very hard to make good, happy, fulfilling, long-lasting, sustainable and equal friendships, and (unfortunately) I've had a lot of rubbish friends along the way.  However, whenever I form stable and solid friendships, I always invest my time and effort in them, and I think that's so important.  I like to get back what I put in - I'm kind and respectful to my friends so I expect the same things.

G is for Gratitude (of the self)
I'm learning to be appreciative of myself.  I embrace myself a lot more.  I'm very critical of myself and I spent my entire childhood always feeling like I wasn't good enough and I always seemed to fall short of other people's expectations.  Nowadays, I appreciate myself a lot more and I have a lot of self-compassion.  I know that I will never be perfect and I know that I will never fit in with other people's expectations, but that's okay!  I don't owe anyone that anyway.  As long as I know that I'm good, then that's all that matters.

H is for Hardworking
I've always been hardworking - I can't be lazy and I don't get on with lazy people.  I know that's it's more important to work smart than to work hard, but a bit of hard work, drive and dedication all go a long way.

I is for Introversion
I am an introvert.  I became an introvert after a series of unpleasant circumstances where I was constantly surrounded with horrible and toxic people.  It took me a while but eventually I figured out that it's much better to be on your own than to be surrounded by people who want to hurt you and bring you down.  Also, I felt lonely around others as a result of social seclusion, isolation and alienation.  I spent my childhood being ostracised from various groups, and I was constantly treated like an outcast, so over the years I became accustomed to my own company, and I grew as a person (learning to do things on my own makes me thrive.)

I do have friends, I socialise and I am not socially awkward or withdrawn, but I like my time alone, and I like peace and quiet.  I value my time alone very much.  It's a form of self care for me.

J is for Justice
I'm a big believer in justice (having experienced a lot of injustice in my life), so much so that I wanted to become a lawyer (which was my childhood ambition for a while.)

Becoming a lawyer is not on the cards for me - and I don't think it will ever be - but I still believe in justice.

I guess episodes of Judge Rinder will have to do for now.

K is for Kicking (to the curb)
I've learned - the hard way - that it's important to cut toxic people off because they are not worth the time, effort or energy, so I'm not above cutting someone off it they aren't treating me right.

L is for London
London is my home.  It was where I was born and raised.  No matter where I live in the UK or in the world, London will always be my home/turf/playground.  I'm a Londoner at heart.

M is for Makeup
I love makeup!  I love buying cosmetics and I love spending hours in beauty halls.

N is for Nandos
I love love love Nandos!

Typical order: Boneless chicken thighs/butterfly chicken with piri piri chips and a sagres radler.

O is for Open-Mindedness
I'm a liberal-minded person.

P is for Purple
Purple is my favourite colour.

Q is for Question
I've always had a questioning mind.  It's so important to challenge the world around you.

R is for Real Housewives
I'm a Real Housewives junkie, and I have no shame in admitting that.  I've watched most of the franchises, and I'm currently watching the Real Housewives of Cheshire.  My favourite franchise is the Real Housewives of New York City.

S is for Smile
I love to be happy.  I like to laugh and I like to smile.

T is for Truth
No matter what happens, I always like to stay true to myself, and I don't try to be fake.  I'm not going to sacrifice myself for others and I don't try to be something/someone I'm not.

U is for University
I studied Politics and Sociology at the University of Leeds, and I've just finished my degree!  I'll graduate in July.

V is for Value
I am a human being full of worth and value.  Therefore I am deserving of respect, love, care, fulfilment and happiness.

W is for Well-being
It's so important to take care of your physical and mental health, and this is something I am doing more of.

X is for Xylophone
I like to play the Xylophone!

Y is for Yellow
I love this colour, it's bright and to me, the colour yellow represents liberty and happiness.

Z is for Zen
I'm learning to be more 'zen' - calm, collected and mindful.
