I am a Carefree Black Girl.

In fact, I am a Carefree Black Woman.

As a Black Feminist I fully support the Carefree Black Girl Movement, which is a movement that challenges harmful and toxic stereotypes aimed at Black women and women of color.  As a Black woman I have often found myself in situations where I have been unfairly judged and stereotyped on the basis on the colour of my skin and my gender.  Sometimes I feel as though society and certain individuals feel the need to categories Black women and make assumptions, and that is very problematic because this places limitations on Black women by generalising, and this fails to acknowledge that all Black women have various identities.  Ultimately, there are many positive aspects of our identities and we embrace those aspects of ourselves - we don't all conform to negative stereotypes of how Black women 'should' be.  We are all more than that.  We are all better than that.

As a Care Free Black Girl I am...

I have been through a lot in my life and I am slowly overcoming adversity.  If that doesn't make me a strong person then I don't know what does!

I'm down-to-earth and I keep my feet firmly on the ground.

Sassy and fierce.
I'm not afraid to stand up for myself.

Assertive and confident.
I'm happy with who I am and I know what I want out of life (and I know exactly what I deserve), so I'm not afraid to say no to something that isn't for me.

I don't need a man to complete my identity.  I define my own identity by myself.

I have so many goals I want to achieve in my life - have a successful career, travel the world, make a lot of money, learn to drive, buy my own car, buy my own home, find inner peace, etc.

I have no time for drama or toxic behaviour.

Secure and self-assured.
I am happy with who I am and very sure of myself, and I don't feel the need to bring others down to make myself feel better.

Chic and stylish.
I am fashionable and I have a great sense of style.  For myself, fashion is a form of expression.

I'm smart.  I'm intelligent.  I work hard and I work smart.  I take my education very seriously.  I am currently studying for a degree and that's a very big deal for me.

I am a beautiful woman inside and out.

I am not afraid to express my thoughts, feeling and emotions.  That does not make me weak, it makes me human.

I don't follow the crowd.  I think for myself and do things for myself.

Grateful and appreciative.
I am appreciative of the positive people around me who treat me the way I deserve to be treated.

I'm not fake and I don't try to be something I'm not.

Thoughtful and freethinking.
I am very open-minded and liberal.

I am not afraid think critically.

I love to write.

People see kindness as a sign of weakness but I disagree.  I think kindness is a lovely trait to have.  What's the harm in being nice? The world could do with more kind people.  After all, it's nice to be nice.

Loving and compassionate.
I have a lot of love and compassion for myself and other people.
I am happy with who I am and everything I have achieved so far!

Just like any other person in the world, I am a human being with thoughts, feelings, emotions and experiences.  Just like any other person in the world, I have wants, needs, desires and expectations.  Just like any other person in the world, I am deserving of rights, love, respect, consideration, kindness and compassion.  Why?  Because I am human.
