I saw #TheSelfLoveChallenge via Sophie of Petals of Perfection and I decide to have a go!

The tag, created by Alexandra, is all about recognising who you are and embracing your good points.  You pick out 13 things that you like about yourself and blog about them in a self-love post!  The self-love challenge is a great way to get you to feel good about yourself.

I think that self-love is extremely important, and it's a vital part of your emotional and physical well-being.  If you don't feel good about yourself then that is detrimental to your mental health, your life and how you interact with others.

Loving myself is something I have struggled with all my life.  I have always suffered with having no self-esteem, and that had a detrimental effect on myself, my life and my interactions with other people.  I spent my whole childhood (and the first couple of years of adulthood) feeling an overwhelming sense of self-loathing and shame, and that is so sad.  I absolutely hated myself and my life.  Since last year I've started becoming a lot more confident, assertive, and sure of myself, who I am and what I want out of life.

I have moments where I struggle with being confident and assertive, and I have moments where I think negatively, but nowadays I make sure that I recognise, acknowledge and appreciate the positive aspects of myself and my life.

I'm not perfect, but that's okay.  I make mistakes sometimes but that's fine, because I learn from them.  I recognise that I am a human being with thoughts, feelings, goals, ambitions, opinions and expectations.  I'm full of hope, and I recognise that I am worthy of respect, kindness, attention and happiness, just like all human beings in this world.  Everyone in this world deserves to feel happy about themselves, and I'm not the exception to that.

The rules of #TheSelfLoveChallenge13 are as follows:
- Nominate 13 bloggers to complete the challenge.  I nominate anyone who reads this post!
- Write 13 things you love about yourself and don't feel selfish while doing it!  Loving yourself is not a selfish act.  It's important to realise how beautiful you are and how much you can love yourself.
- Share the post and tag it with #TheSelfLoveChallenge13.

So here goes...

1. I love my smile and my laugh.  I believe in the saying "laughter is medicine for the soul" and having a good laugh makes me feel so good.
2. I love the fact that I'm educated.  I may not be the next Einstein but I do think of myself as a smart person.  I love learning, I love opening my mind, and I love trying to broaden my mind in any way possible.
3. I love my hair.  I have afro hair and while it requires a lot of care, over time I'v learned to love it and take care of it.  I love my hair more when it's in braids though!
4. I love the fact that I'm kind and considerate towards others.  Some people say that niceness is a sign of weakness, but I think that if people take advantage of your kindness then clearly they are just evil.  Being a nice person doesn't make me a weak person.  There is nothing wring with being nice, as long as you are assertive.  It's nice to be nice.
5. I love my height.  I'm 5 foot 7 inches so I'm tall, and I love being a tall lady!
6. I love my strength.  I have been through a lot of horrible stuff in my life and while I'd never want to go through those things, I'm so glad I've come out the other side.  While I've been scarred by my bad experiences (there were times when I didn't think I'd be able to get through those bad times), I feel a sense of strength.  I feel strong.  I believe I'm a strong person.  However, I don't think that those bad experiences made me stronger.  I just believe that I'd always had a beacon of hope and strength that I didn't know I had.
7. I love my personal power and self-control.  I finally feel as though I am where I'm meant to be, and I feel as though I have managed to gain a sense of control and power over my life, but I have a long way to go.  Here's hoping I get to a point in my life where I feel calm and at peace with myself and my past.
8. I love being able to write well.  I have strong writing ability and I have always had a natural flair for writing.  I used to read and write a lot as a child, and I'd instantly connect with words.  To be honest, I believe that I was born to write, and I think I shall write until the day I die.
9. I love being independent, responsible and self-sufficient.  I love the fact that I can do things for myself, and I can cope with being on my own instead of having to rely on others.
10. I love my sense determination and conscientiousness.  I have always been extremely hard-working.
11. I love being resilient.  I don't like to let anything or anyone bring me down.  I always pick myself back up, and I always keep myself going.  I don't let anyone or anything defeat me.
12. I love my nails.  I always file them, moisturise them, apply a top coat then paint them.  Painting my nails feels so therapeutic.
13. I love my lips!  I always apply lipstick or lipgloss and my lips always look good.

Extra point: I love me, myself and I!  I love myself for who I am!

  1. Hi Chichi! I am so happy that you decided to accept the challenge and do this lovely post! I think you are an amazing person. The extra point is what makes me even happier, because after all those bad situations and your insecurities, you won. No matter what a storm is bringing, the sun is always coming back. Okay, I am becoming a little too poet... anyway you did a great job, nice to meet you! Hope you have a great day!
